SEK finances Alight’s solar park initiative in Denmark

Swedish Export Credit Corporation (SEK) is strengthening its presence in renewable energy by co-financing one of the largest solar parks in the Nordics – the Lidsø solar park in Denmark. The deal marks SEK’s growing presence in the solar power sector.

One of the largest solar parks in the Nordics

The solar park has been acquired by Swedish company Alight, a leading Nordic solar developer and independent power producer, and represents their first establishment in Denmark. The project, developed by European Energy, is expected to be operational by summer 2025. Once completed, the park will have an installed capacity of 215 MWp – twice the size of Sweden’s largest solar park – and will generate green electricity equivalent to the consumption of nearly 65,000 households. The project is backed by strong power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Swedish collaboration enables green transition in Denmark

The acquisition is part of Alight’s long-term strategy to be the leading independent power producer (IPP) in the Nordics.

For SEK, the project is an opportunity to contribute to the expansion of renewable energy in Northern Europe, a region where the demand for sustainable investments is on the rise. SEB is arranging the financing and has invited SEK as a co-lender for this 20-year project financing.

“This is a significant deal for us – both because it strengthens Swedish exports within the energy transition and because it is our first solar project financing in our part of the world. We’ve followed Alight for a long time, and this is a great example of how we can enable investments in renewable energy together with other stakeholders,” says Per Edlundh, Director – Project Finance at SEK.

“We’re proud to take this major step into Denmark with the Lidsø solar park, a milestone that underscores our ambition to lead the energy transition in the Nordics. This financing from SEK plays a crucial role in enabling long-term, sustainable energy production and we’re thrilled to partner with institutions that share our commitment to a fossil-free future”

Richard Nicolin, Chief Investment Officer of Alight.
