Stronger export order intake and growing optimism among Swedish exporters

Swedish exporters are more optimistic about their export order intake. Almost half, 49 percent, expect orders to increase over the coming year, while only 5 percent anticipate a decline. Meanwhile, order intake has already strengthened over the past six months, particularly among small exporters. These are findings from SEK’s autumn Export Credit Barometer.

The index for export order intake over the past six months rises from 57 in the spring to 63 in the autumn survey. Among small companies, the increase is even more pronounced, from 52 to 62. Expectations for the next twelve months have strengthened. In total, 49 percent of companies expect export order intake to increase, while 46 percent anticipate no change and only 5 percent expect a decline. The index for expected export order intake increases from 66 to 72.

Confidence has strengthened broadly among Swedish exporters. Nearly half expect export order intake to increase over the coming year, while only a small minority anticipate a decline. Optimism is evident among both large and small companies, reinforcing the picture of a more positive outlook for Swedish exports.

Small exporters regain ground

Small companies account for the largest improvement in the autumn survey. The export order intake over the past six months has increased by ten points, from 52 to 62, while the corresponding index for large companies rises from 60 to 63. In the spring survey, by contrast, the improvement was most pronounced among large companies.

Expectations for the coming year are also strong among both large and small exporters. The index stands at 73 for large companies and 71 for small companies.

The full Export Credit Barometer will be published in early December.

*An index of 50 indicates a neutral position. Levels above 50 mean that more companies report an increase than a decrease, while levels below 50 indicate the reverse.
